Using nitrous for cars provides horsepower on demand in an affordable package. But how does it work, how does it compare to turbocharging, and where to buy nitrous oxide for cars? Below are answers to the common questions about nitrous oxide systems:

Types Of Nitrous Oxide Systems

When researching, there are different nitrous kit options to choose from. For carbureted or throttle body applications, the most common type of system involves a spray bar plate that fits between the carburetor or throttle body and the intake manifold. Plate systems are usually “wet”, meaning the spray plate releases both fuel and nitrous into the intake. Another option is direct port injection, where individual nozzles and jets spray both nitrous and fuel into each engine cylinder intake port for more precise nitrous control. The third option, a “dry system”, involves a jet spraying a small amount of nitrous only into the air intake tract for a small horsepower gain on fuel injected engines. This system is limited to power output, as additional fuel is not mixed with the nitrous gas.

Where To Buy Nitrous Oxide For Cars

The most common place to buy nitrous oxide for cars and race vehicles is from a local gas supplier in your area. Large bottles can also be rented to reduce the number of trips to the gas supplier as well. However, you will need to properly transfer the gas from the large cylinder to the bottle that will be in your vehicle. This is performed with a nitrous pump station to ensure the correct amount is added. The JEGS retail store in Columbus, OH also offers nitrous for cars and trucks, if you are within driving distance.

What Is Better Nitrous Or A Turbo? – H2

Nitrous oxide and turbochargers are two different ways of providing horsepower to your engine. Whether going with nitrous or turbo, each of them has their pros and cons. Nitrous has a low cost in parts and provides a reliable and specific amount of horsepower every time it is used. However, it requires constant replenishment as when the bottle runs out, you have to refill it. It also is for “on demand” use only. Installation of a turbocharger, on the other hand, provides horsepower without needing a refill and is not used “on demand”. The amount of horsepower it provides is dynamic throughout the rpm range when comparing a nitrous vs turbo setup. However, turbocharger setups are more expensive, costing two to four times as much as a nitrous setup, or more. Some racers combine nitrous with turbo to add an additional boost when needed.
