Sway Bar Bushing
When your vehicle turns, leaning occurs, causing a reduction in traction and handling at higher speeds. To reduce the leaning, a sway bar is used. Connected to the lower control arms on the ends with sway bar links and the frame at the middle with sway bar bushings, the sway bar compresses the outside lower control arm during a high speed turn. This is accomplished by using leverage from the inside lower control arm on the other end of the sway bar, making the vehicle lean less and planting the tires more evenly. Sway bar bushings allow the sway bar to rotate within them during cornering while keeping the bar in place. As the rubber bushings age and wear from time and use, they degrade and eventually fall apart, requiring replacement.
