Brake Drum
Though not as common today and due to advances in disc brake technology, drum brakes have been present on many vehicles since the beginning of the 20th century. The brake drum is a component of the brakes which the brake shoes push against to slow the vehicle down. When the brake pedal is applied and brake fluid is compressed, the wheel cylinder expands, pressing the shoes against the inside of the brake drum as it rotates with the wheel. The friction created causes the brake drum (attached to the axle or spindle) to slow down and stop rotating.
When purchasing brake drums, it's important to confirm the year, make, and model of the vehicle as well as the brake system type (for some vehicles such as HD pickup trucks) in order to select the correct components for installation.
JEGS offers brake drums from high quality brands like AC Delco, Motorcraft, Crown Automotive, StopTech, Right Stuff, and others. Each brake drum is created from high quality materials to provide long-life and factory braking performance.
