FAQ
What is the difference between offset and backspacing?
- Offset and backspacing are both measurements that affect how a wheel fits on a vehicle. Offset refers to the distance from the wheel's mounting surface to the centerline, with a positive offset pushing the wheel further into the fender and a negative offset bringing it closer to the suspension components. Backspacing, on the other hand, is the distance from the wheel's mounting surface to the back edge of the wheel. Understanding these measurements is crucial for achieving proper fitment and clearance.
Are one-piece aluminum wheels lighter than 2-piece?
- Yes, one-piece aluminum wheels, such as the JEGS SSR Spike Wheels, are typically lighter than their two-piece counterparts. One-piece wheels are machined from a single block of aluminum, resulting in a more uniform and lightweight construction. This reduction in weight can contribute to improved performance and handling by reducing unsprung weight and rotational mass.
Do I need hub-centric rings for aftermarket wheels?
- Hub-centric rings are not always necessary for aftermarket wheels, but they can help ensure proper fitment and reduce vibrations. These rings fill the gap between the center bore of the wheel and the hub of the vehicle, ensuring that the wheel is centered properly. While some aftermarket wheels may be hub-centric to the vehicle's hub size, others may require hub-centric rings for a secure fit and smooth ride.
Do I need special lug nuts for aftermarket wheels?
- Yes, it's essential to use lug nuts specifically designed for aftermarket wheels. Aftermarket wheels often have different lug nut seat designs compared to stock wheels, so using the correct lug nuts ensures proper fitment and prevents damage to the wheels. Additionally, aftermarket wheels may require tapered or conical lug nuts to match the wheel's lug nut seats for optimal security and safety.
