Billet wheels are made by machining a solid piece of extruded aluminum into the desired size and shape. They can be cut into a "one-piece" design or a multi-piece version, allowing the center to be changed, which will allow more backspacing / offset options.

Due to how they are made and being cut from a single block of extruded aluminum, billet wheels are stronger than most of their cast or forged counterparts. Because of this longer process, most billet wheels are more expensive than forged or cast versions. A majority of the billet aluminum wheels have a noticeably shinier appearance out-of-the box when compared to forged and cast wheels as well.

The first step in polishing billet wheels is to clean them with warm water and a mild detergent that will remove any dirt and contaminants. Next, using either terry cloth towels or a wheel-safe polisher, apply and buff the billet surface with a liquid metal polish. Then wipe off any excess polish with a microfiber towel. Repeat the polishing process until the desired shine level is achieved.

Depending on the Billet Specialties wheel style, center cap removal steps and tools will vary. The three main cap styles include bolt-on, pull-through, and snap-on. Bolt-on caps remove by unscrewing the bolts holding them on with a screwdriver or bit. Pull-through caps require the wheel to be removed from the vehicle and pulling the cap out of the center from the backside. Snap-on caps are removed with a gentle tap of a rubber mallet.
