  • Spark Test - Using an inline ignition spark tester, connect the spark plug to the spark plug wire or coil. Start the engine and look for spark in the tool's viewing window. If no spark is found, the ignition coil is not providing spark. If voltage is reaching the coil, its properly connected with clean and tight connectors at the positive and negative terminals, and it is not providing spark, the coil is defective and in need of replacement.
  • How To Replace Ignition Coil

    Depending on the year, make, model of the vehicle as well as the engine and type of ignition coil, the replacement directions will change. For most ignition coils, there is either a connector or two leads and the spark plug wire or spark plug boot connection. These need to first be removed.
