Having auto racing footage from your events allows you to review and learn from details caught in the video and improve for the next event. For road course or circle track racing, it helps to show you the vehicle position as it enters or exits corners. For drag racing, footage helps to show vehicle shift during launch as well as driver reaction and steering.

Being able to save your race footage allows you to share wins and great memories with friends and family privately or on social media. Like photos, videos are great to look at in the future as well.

The most popular brand of camera equipment racing drivers use currently is the GoPro series. Other options include Insta360, DJI Osmo Action, Sony RX0 II, followed by many others. As technology advances, options and brands will change along with features, technology, and quality.

The main two pieces of racing camera equipment needed for recording in-car race footage are the camera itself and a mount. In some applications, an external microphone may be desired (if the camera has the connection). Camera mounts can include roll bar clamps, suction cups, or adhesive mounts for exterior assembly.

The three most common race car camera mounts for the inside of a vehicle are the following:
