  • Brushes / Brush Holder - brushes conduct electricity from the spinning rotor that is very close to them. Replacement is done by removing the bolt or screw that holds them in place.
  • Rectifier Bridge - this part works with the diodes to convert AC to DC voltage. Replacement involves hardware removal to complete the swap.
  • Bearings - These allow the alternator shaft to spin smoothly and can be a source of noise. In most applications, these are pressed into place.
  • Stator - The main component of an alternator and source of the source of electrical energy, it is a fixed component, attached to the case. As the rotor spins inside the stator winding, AC voltage is created. To replace the stator, the through bolts need removed and then the stator can be gently dislodged from the alternator case.
  • Resistor - resists voltage in the alternator to limit its output. These can either be inline or bolted in place.
