Trailing Arm
Most vehicles with rear-wheel drivetrains use either leaf spring or coil-spring suspensions. Leaf spring suspensions use the leaf springs to hold the rear axle housing assembly in place. However, coil spring suspensions use upper and lower trailing arms (also commonly interchanged with the term, "rear control arms"). Trailing / control arms regulate up-and-down suspension movement, keeping coil springs straight and vertical, as well as locate the wheels centrally in the wheel well. Upgrading them with a stronger design and materials reduces flexing, increasing handling performance.
