Diesel performance chips and tuners provide the ability to increase power for your pickup truck. By either selecting a preloaded configuration from the manufacturer or customizing your engine yourself, you can improve your vehicle's performance. Stock settings can always be returned to as well as making changes until you find the setup you like best.

In most cases (depending on the year, make, model, and engine of the vehicle) diesel performance programmers and tuners allow you to make changes to your speedometer reading when you change gear ratios or tire sizes. They also can allow tuning so that you can customize when the electric fan turns on and off as well as raise or lower the engine rpm limiter and vehicle top speed limit.

Most diesel programmers connect to the diagnostic port under the dash of your diesel truck. By following the online screen prompts on the handheld device, you can select preprogrammed options that will update your engine computer settings to increase power, correct the speedometer after making a change to the rear end gear ratio or tire size, transmission shift points and firmness, top speed and engine speed limits, and more. Once options have been selected, the programmer completes the process. The vehicle can then be started and driven.

Diesel performance tuners are handheld devices that allow you to customize engine settings that can improve either fuel mileage or horsepower and torque along with other parameters like electric cooling fan on and off temperatures. Some manufacturers offer diesel engine tuners with a mount that is attached to the dash for "on-the-fly" and tuning adjustability.
